Position Summary
William & Mary determined to be a place where respectful dialogue takes place on challenging topics. We are seeking an experienced trainer, facilitator, and practitioner of restorative practice to scale our current material and framework into a sustainable multi-tiered suite of programming and resources.
At the direction of and in close partnership with the Dean of Students, the Director of Conflict Resolution & Peer Mediation will implement and manage a comprehensive slate of new initiatives designed to infuse the Division of Student Affairs and student community with a common language and tools to navigate conflict and practice civil discourse, and cultivate self-awareness, resilience, intercultural understanding, and belonging. These initiatives will be culturally responsive and relevant and center student voices in both design and implementation, include proactive engagement and skill-building opportunities, and support university responses to timely issues and concerns.
The Director will serve as a critical collaborator and point of connection for partners across the university, support efforts to grow internal capacity across the division for restorative approaches, and ensure programming aligns with existing adaptable resolution and deferred sanction processes. All work of this position is grounded in diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Required Qualifications
The Director will be a collaborative and upbeat leader with a passion for direct student engagement and community building and a proven dedication to equity and inclusion. They will have a record of dynamic, student-centered leadership with examples of programs and initiatives they have managed and/or developed. Director must exhibit an understanding of the current best practices in student affairs and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education, including social justice, cultural competency, retention and persistence, at-risk student factors, community building, and student learning.
- Three years professional experience, preferably in Student Affairs, Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion and/or Judicial Affairs
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Successful track record of fruitful collaboration in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Demonstrated facilitation and training skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong administrative skills
- Proven commitment to restorative values and practices
- Demonstrated experience in the areas of conflict resolution
- Ability to accommodate extended work hours, including evening and weekend work hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, law or a related field is strongly preferred
- A Restorative Justice certification
- Direct experience implementing and scaling programs intended to address community needs and evaluating their success
Advertised Pay Range
Up to $70,000 commensurate with experience
