Educational Technology Specialist
Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is accepting applications to fill the temporary role of Educational Technology Specialist on the Walla Walla campus.

General Responsibilities
Working under the general supervision of the Director of eLearning and in collaboration with the eLearning team, the ETS provides instruction, coaching, and customized support to faculty across the disciplines in the area of instructional technologies that promote student engagement, learning, and success. The successful candidate will assist faculty in the expansion and enhancement of their skills used in teaching in technology-enhanced classrooms. The ETS will plan, coordinate, and conduct workshops on the use of educational technologies and support faculty in developing best practices in digital teaching. Duties include consulting, conducting individual and group workshops, providing feedback on teaching with multiple technologies, creating educational technology training courses in the Canvas LMS, as well as researching, troubleshooting, and problem-solving to meet specific course content/delivery needs.
The position requires a strong working knowledge of technology-driven instructional methodologies, educational technologies, learning management systems (currently Canvas) and presentation software (document cameras, web cams, Zoom, Panopto, MS Office, tablets, smart boards, etc.).
Essential Functions:
- Plan, develop the curriculum, and deliver workshops on educational technology best practices
- Work with a wide range of multimedia software (including, audio, video, web, animation, and photo) to develop materials for online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses
- Assist faculty in differentiating delivery of instruction depending on modality
- Recommend instructional options to meet course delivery needs
- Provide guidance to help faculty ensure equity and access for all enrolled students regardless of their chosen mode of receiving instruction
- Analyze institutional needs and resources related to instructional delivery with technology and identify future professional development based on feedback from faculty, deans, and relevant data
- Collaborate actively with the eLearning team for best practices with instructional design, accessibility, and Canvas integration
- Collaborate with eLearning team to build training resources related to educational technology
- Network with others as needed
- Build relationships of trust and influence in order to actively increase acceptance and use of new teaching technologies for new or inexperienced faculty users
- Other duties as assigned
Competencies
- Ability to hit the ground running in supporting faculty in high tech classrooms
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong working knowledge of learning management systems, preferably Canvas
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High proficiency and comfort level with educational technology and presentation software
- Ability to work independently, professionally, and with minimal supervision
- Ability to convey information with enthusiasm and positivity
- Ability to address the changing needs of adult learners and programs
- Excellent customer service capabilities
- Demonstrated understanding of the ethical responsibilities when dealing with student and course data
- Demonstrated understanding of methods of providing equitable access to instruction, regardless of mode of delivery
- Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify solutions independently and report back with updates or other required follow-up
Qualifications:
- Degree in educational technology, instructional design, adult or secondary education, or closely related field
- Demonstrated successful teaching with technology (experience as an educational technology trainer may be substituted)
- Experience with learning management systems beyond that of a student (instructor, trainer, advisor, administrator, etc.)
- Bilingual – English/Spanish desired
- Instructional coaching experience desired
- Customer service/Helpdesk experience desired
- Advanced degree or training in educational technology or closely related field desired
Conditions/Terms of Employment
This temporary full-time position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.
Typical work schedule is Monday–Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. The summer work schedule is normally adjusted to a 4/10 Monday through Thursday work week.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required: Duties require the use of standard office furniture and instructional equipment (e.g., computers, projectors, web cams, etc.) Sitting at a desk or computer station, standing and walking, and light lifting are required throughout the shift. Generally, no weekend or evening hours anticipated. Minimal travel may be required.
Some travel may be required, and is typically local or regional for training.
Compensation
Annual salary range: $53,000 - $56,000. This benefits-eligible exempt position is grant funded for twelve months with an option for an extension of an additional twelve months as circumstances warrant.
The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
