The Simulation Operations and Technology Specialist is a technical expert in designing, planning, and evaluating technological resources required for healthcare simulation within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). This position also supports all specialized technology in the College of Health and Human Services.

This position will support all audio-visual technology, recording systems, and related instructional technology within the Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation Center (“Sim Center”), troubleshoot problems in both hardware and software systems and networks, and provide basic maintenance of simulation equipment. The position requires the ability to provide technical support for all simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins and ensuring that simulation equipment is set up for teaching and simulation sessions. The position is expected to attend technical training and conferences to maintain currency with simulation technology, monitor simulation center equipment, repair/report malfunctions, and maintain an inventory of all technological equipment incorporated within the Sim Center. This individual will also participate in system and procedure improvements by identifying opportunities for technological enhancements and implementing computing and infrastructure solutions.

Physical effort, including moving or lifting heavy objects (e.g. manikins), is frequently necessary.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare and maintain high and low fidelity simulation trainers and related equipment for simulation-based education (SBE), and provide support as needed

Work with multiple disciplines in healthcare education to support simulation pedagogy

Prepare and maintain equipment related to simulation-based education (SBE) with support as needed Communicate professionally and effectively with vendors related to simulation technology

Operate manikins, equipment, media, electronic health records, and computers during simulations Serve as a resource and assist in training instructors and staff in the use of simulation equipment

Assist senior simulation staff in purchasing and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment for simulation

Collaborate with senior simulation staff in maintenance and repair of simulation equipment and maintain service logs and other documents as a component of inventory record-keeping

Create clear and effective simulation instructional documents for faculty and other users

Develops, collects, and assists with the analysis of simulation evaluation data Keep current with new developments in simulation technology

Support Communication Disorders Clinic, Family Therapy Clinic, and Health and Movement Sciences Labs with audio-visual software operations.

Maintain a collaborative relationship with the IT department to stay abreast of IT operational practices.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibilities of the position

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in educational technology or related field, with 4 or more years of related work experience as an IT specialist.

Preferred qualifications include: Master’s degree in IT related field; Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification; Active membership in professional organizations related to simulation; 4 or more years of experience in healthcare simulation; experience working in higher education; experience working in an interprofessional academic environment; experience using simulation audio-visual software.
