Job Description

Rappahannock Community College, a two-campus institution serving a rural and diverse 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, whose mission is to provide inclusive access to exceptional training and educational opportunities meeting the community’s needs and preparing individuals for success as learners, employees, and citizens. Rappahannock Community College (RCC) invites applications for a faculty-ranked teaching position in Mathematics who shares RCC’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, and inclusion, excellence, access, and learning for life. The primary location for this position is the Glenns campus. This position is a nine-month appointment with an excellent benefits package; salary commensurate with education and experience but no less than $48,263. Position begins August 16, 2023.

The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working in a diverse student population, including adult learners and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement through professional development, assessment, program and course development, and creating a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. Outreach and service to the college community (developing partnerships, academic advising, and committee work and faculty governance) along with the ability to teach 15 credits per semester. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.

Duties and responsibilities will primarily include teaching courses in all levels of math including developmental math. Other duties will include, but are not limited to facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in mathematics, trends in community college and mathematics education, and using a variety of instructional delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Teaching faculty will advise students, collaborate with colleagues, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi, develop new courses, participate in assessment and improvement activities related to course/curriculum/instruction, mentor adjunct faculty, assist with dual enrollment initiatives, and participate in college governance committees. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments, and teaching concurrently enrolled high school students.

 

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

 

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics, or a master’s degree in a closely related area with eighteen graduate credit hours in mathematics, with the degree earned from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics. Experience teaching college level math, developmental math, and using online modalities. Experience using innovative pedagogical techniques to motivate and encourage non-math majors. Familiarity with community college instruction and student populations.

 

Required Travel

May be required to travel between campuses.
