Pharmacy Supervisor

Job Summary
The Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the daily operation of the pharmacy, including inventory management, personnel supervision, and prescription dispensing and patient care. The Pharmacy Supervisor must also provide immunizations, medication therapy management, perform point-of-care laboratory testing and interpretation, and other non-dispensing roles of the pharmacist. The Pharmacy Supervisor must ensure that policies and Federal and State laws and regulations in all prescription-related issues, including record keeping, and attention to HIPAA, are followed. He or she will provide counseling on both prescription medications and over the counter medications per College policy and as required by State and Federal law. He or she will ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines are followed. They will perform trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues and verify that all required pharmacy, pharmacist and technician licenses/registrations are current and valid as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines. The Pharmacy Supervisor will incorporate student pharmacists and resident pharmacists in the operation of the pharmacy, and will be responsible for supervision of learners in the practice. The Pharmacy Supervisor may have other responsibilities assigned as appropriate.

Principle Responsibilities:
This individual will have responsibility to operate the ONU Healthwise pharmacy in accordance with all Federal and State regulations. The individual will create and maintain policies and procedures for pharmacy operation, order and maintain inventory, supervise all personnel in the pharmacy, ensure that policies and Federal and State laws and regulations in all prescription-related issues, including HIPAA, are followed, dispense medications and provide or supervise counseling on both prescription medications and over the counter medications per College policy and as required by State and Federal law, provide immunizations, medication therapy management, perform point-of-care laboratory testing and interpretation, ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by State, Federal, and Company guidelines are followed, oversee all third-party billing, and identify and solve all third party discrepancies and other prescription filling. This individual will play a key role in the training and precepting of student pharmacists and resident pharmacists in the operation of the pharmacy.

  • Organized, Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal relation skills. The individual should bring a spirit of innovation to the position.
  • The candidate must have a commitment to the preparation of undergraduates in a Christian-affiliated institution, and share a sincere interest in the personal well-being of our patients and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree is required. The individual must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Ohio.
  • The individual should have a minimum of 3 years experience in community pharmacy management or related experience and training, and be conversant with the principles and procedures of the operation of a professionally respected community pharmacy.
  • The individual must have sufficient familiarity with community pharmacy practices, guidelines, and regulations in relation to medication dispensing, counseling, record-keeping inventory management, and all applicable State and Federal laws.
  • The successful candidate will have experience supervising and/or precepting learners in a pharmacy operation, and be proficient in directing, overseeing, and evaluating the work of technical and professional staff. Effectiveness in maintaining and establishing efficient relationships with the public, employees, departmental staff and supervisors is a key trait. The willingness and potential to contribute to the research and service mission of the college is essential.
