2. General Description of the Position’s Function and Purpose:
The Technology Specialist will assist the Network/Server Analyst and the Director of
Technology in delivering technical support to component school districts and agencies.

3. Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Acts as the initial point of contact for problem resolution and technical assistance from
Malheur ESD component school districts.
i. Takes technical support requests from users using the Help Desk system
ii. Assigns, monitors tickets, and manages requests with the Help Desk system
software
iii. Follows-up on customer service satisfaction
iv. Trouble-shoots computer, software, and telecom configuration on-site, and
over the phone, utilizing remote management tools as required

b. Assist ESD Technology Department with installation and support of ESD and component
district computer hardware and software, including servers.
c. Communicates and offers technical support on-site, via phone, or email.
d. Travel to component district personnel with hardware and software supports.
e. Assist component school district personnel with hardware and software support.
f. Communicate effectively with other staff, school district and agency personnel.
g. Isolates problems from symptoms, determines alternatives, recommends a solution, and
effectively communicates these aspects to management, peers, and users.
h. Provides support in monthly system backups, verification, and restoration of data.
i. Maintains a working knowledge of wiring technology, phone data circuits, modems, and
other aspects of data communications
j. Understands and uses diagnostic tools and software for network problem determination.
k. Troubleshooting a variety of computer issues.
l. Setting up and implementing computer security measures.
m. Provides support with documentation, project tracking, and management reporting.
n. Assists with the coordination for computer, server, and network equipment purchases and
upgrades.
o. Other duties as assigned.
4. Difficulty:
a) Complexity: Ranges from minimal to complex.
5. Personal Relations:
a) Personal Contacts: Local area school districts, ESD Staff, ESD Board, various state,
regional and federal agencies and various foundations.

6. Environment:
a) Physical Requirements: Lifting 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, with
occasional sitting, frequent standing/walking, and driving.
b) Work Environment: Office and various community environments. Regular daily work on-
the site at Malheur Education Service District Region 14 with frequent travel to component
school districts. Requires evening and weekend work when necessary. Frequent non-
traditional work hour activities including workshops, work sessions, and pieces of training during
evenings or weekends.

7. Title of the Person to whom this Position Reports: Director of Technology, Network/Server
Analyst, and Senior Technology Specialist
8. Qualifications – Minimum Required:
a) Minimum of three years of experience in the networking field or related field is preferred.
b) Skill in written and oral communication at all levels. Must be proficient in English (oral
and written).
c) Have or be able to secure a valid driver’s license.
d) Successfully pass a criminal background check.
9. Desirable Additional Qualifications:
a) Associates or Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred.
b) Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to be successful as a leader of a productive
and talented team.
c) Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
Shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, customers and
supervisors.
10. Salary and Benefits:
a. Salary range is $45,000-$49,216 annually.
b. 238 contract days
c. $700 per year tuition reimbursement
d. $1450 per month health insurance benefits
e. PERS pick-up paid for by the employer
