Security Officer
The Kittitas County Civil Service Commission is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Security Officer with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefited, Teamsters Union (Local 760-Corrections) position. Anyone who meets the qualifications stated below may apply. This listing will close on 3/05/2019.
Salary Range: $4,947- $5,147 per month.
Essential Functions
- Restrict access into assigned County facilities by individuals felt to be a threat or potential threat to public safety through inspection, patrol and observation. May conduct voluntary, non-intrusive inspections of visitors and their belongings (such as briefcases, purses and bags) in accordance with current laws and/or County policy.
- Patrol and observe activity both indoors and outside County facilities.
- Respond to emergencies and diffuse high conflict and potentially dangerous situations.
- Investigate security related issues and provide security assistance as needed which may include escorting individuals out of the facility or other action.
- Effect temporary custodial detention of person(s) committing physical assaults or other criminal acts in or around facilities, as necessary and where authorized, according to commission and statute, and guidelines of limited commission.
- Patrol and observe courtroom activity as requested for special court proceedings. Patrol inside the courtrooms after they are called into session. Observe for possible firearms or weapons. Control noise which may disrupt court proceedings by quieting the gallery.
- Maintain chronological security log(s) as directed to include but not be limited to facility sweeps and opening/closing the court room(s).
- Transport Juvenile prisoners to and from detention and courts.
- Transport Juvenile or Adult prisoners to support agencies, hospital mental health centers, alcohol centers, etc.
- Transport Juvenile prisoners to court and court ordered events such as funerals and rehabilitative programs.
Other Functions
- Prepare regular reports and other documents related to security incidents and department activities.
- Escort individuals that have received sentencing to detention.
- Perform functions within the Sheriff’s and Kittitas County’s Emergency Response Plan, including but not limited to lock down of facilities and evacuation processes.
- Provide Security related training to county staff.
- Knowledge of Civil Process.
- Civil Standbys.
- Act on Writ of Restitution, Sheriff Sales, Order of Replevin.
- Service of civil papers to the appropriate persons/places in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Certified training and/or experience with juvenile offenders.
Working Conditions
Primary work is performed inside the Kittitas County Courthouse facility with exposure to unpredictable crisis situations. Position requires considerable walking and working on feet to complete assigned shifts. Must have the ability to stand and work on feet for up to 10 hours or longer per shift, lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.) or occasionally higher with assistance and have the ability to physically restrain combative individuals including utilizing proper hand cuffing techniques. Must have vision (including peripheral) to read printed materials, computer screens, monitors, and be acutely aware of activity within the facility; and hearing and speech to communicate clearly in person, as well as over the telephone, intercom, and radio. Occasional travel may be required within Kittitas County. Persons in this position may be required to work day and night shifts including holidays as required. Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
