Threat Assessment Coordinator

 

The Threat Assessment Coordinator reports to the Chief of Police within the JMU Police Department. The primary purpose of the position is administration and management of matters pertaining to the University Threat Assessment Team (TAT), and the Campus Violence Prevention Committee (VPC).

 

The coordinator works independently and as part of a team, with limited direct supervision. Duties include Threat Assessment Intake, provide consultation to community partners regarding potential threat assessment cases, data management, management of meetings, organizing and implementing team training, coordination of administrative activities with on and off-campus partners including supporting team members as needed. The Coordinator also serves as a liaison from the JMU PD and the JMU Threat Assessment team to all stakeholders concerning Threat Assessment Team cases.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Threat Assessment Team and facilitate meetings of the TAT and VPC. The coordinator will prepare the agendas and present the cases to the TAT for review.
  • Supports information needs of JMU PD, TAT, and VPC by managing data collection, compiling and analyzing data from various sources, writing reports, and presenting results to administrators and TAT/VPC.
  • Ensures that information management procedures comply with federal and state requirements and university policies.
  • Direct and coordinate TAT investigations of reported threatening or violent behavior by or against faculty, staff, students, medical center employees, patients, visitors, and others with no affiliation.
  • Supports communication and awareness efforts by developing information sessions and presentations, assisting with or making presentations to students or employees, and developing communications materials in a variety of media.
  • Must provide immediate assistance in any crisis affecting the operation of the university, as needed.
  • Direct the allocation of University and Medical Center resources to mitigate violence risk in TAT cases.
  • Collect, collate, and evaluate TAT data to determine vulnerabilities, resource, and training needs.
  • Enhances collaboration of University offices, TAT, VPC, and other entities by developing and implementing information sharing mechanisms, providing updates, ensuring crossover agenda items are shared, following up on assignments and deadlines, identification of resources, and managing a caseload.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate manuals, forms, procedures, and reports for the TAT.
  • Other duties might include assisting with the administration and management of threat information requests, coordination and preparation for meetings with TAT/VPC/JMU PD stakeholders, and other duties as assigned.
  • Must successfully complete enhanced public safety background check prior to employment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in one of the following areas: psychology, management, human resources, criminal justice, higher education administration, public administration, or related discipline or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • Substantial professional experience with threat management analysis, law enforcement, mental health profession, or related field
  • Familiarity with a variety of data analysis and reporting software.
  • Previous experience working with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to manage projects, including report preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and make effective presentations to diverse populations

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with threat assessment.
  • Threat Management Certification through the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State legislation related to Title IX and sexual assault on campus.
  • Institutional knowledge of James Madison University.
