PART-TIME / FULL-TIME BASIC SCIENCE TEACHING FACULTY

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) seeks applicants for two part-time or full-time, non-tenure, open rank faculty (assistant, associate, or full professor) positions. The ideal candidates will have a history of teaching excellence in medical education. Selected candidate will collaborate with Strand Leaders, Discipline Leads, Unit Directors, Course Directors, and the Office of Medical Education to design and implement curricular content in a dynamic and innovative learning environment, managing the teaching faculty and promoting collaboration, identifying gaps and redundancies in content, and incorporating effective learning and assessment formats. Selected candidates will provide instruction in basic science courses and the basic science components of clinical courses as per personal expertise and the needs of the curriculum (predominantly MD Program but may also include, as needed, participation in other programs at the college including the Master in Physician Assistant Studies program, Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences program, and Graduate Certificate program.
For both positions, the selected candidates with serve as Unit and/or Course Directors for Foundations and Organ Systems courses and will teach in other courses according to expertise and curricular need. For one position, the selected candidate will serve as the Pharmacology Discipline Lead, teaching pharmacology across the four-year MD curriculum, and as the Unit Director for the Pharmacology Unit of the first-year Foundations II course. For the other position, preferred expertise will be in Physiology with the ability to also teach in microbiology, immunology, pathology, and/or histology.
Minimum qualifications include a terminal doctoral degree, MD/DO, Pharm. D. or Ph.D. in basic science disciplines, such as Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, Pharmacology, or a related field. Preferred qualifications include the ability to teach additional disciplines (microbiology, immunology, pathology, histology), experience with the use of technology and active learning instruction, three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in medical education, and previous experience as a Course Director.
