Job Summary:
Perform inventory duties involving the ordering, control, and management of Water and
Wastewater Division inventories. Duties include ordering, warehousing, shipping, receiving,
logistics, inventory control, and distribution. Inventory includes raw material, parts, equipment,
and consumables used in repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment,
facilities and buildings, water wells, water treatment facilities, and water & wastewater
infrastructure.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare and/or review requisitions and orders; solicit bid proposals for goods needed; confer
with users and vendors the most appropriate and cost-effective items to order;
Negotiate, or renegotiate fiscal product pricing, transportation rates or delivery services with
suppliers/vendors and other representatives; Research and evaluate vendors/suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service support, availability, reliability, production, and distribution capabilities to stay within City’s fiscal budgeting parameters; Resolve problems concerning suppliers/vendors ETA, FOB, ARO lead times or material/part quality; Research product data to determine best material selection based on cost, quality, and
availability; Coordinate and receive delivery of incoming inventory and stock it in the appropriate and
designated stock location; Create & assign new inventory to its appropriate part number and enter related information into inventory function of the asset management software system;
Establish, organize and maintain inventories in designated stocking locations at determined
stocking levels; Define and document methods to identify, move, store, and locate inventory; distribute inventory from stocking location to point of use, and issue inventory upon request; Monitor inventory levels at all times and perform periodic cycle counts/audits to ensure inventory control objectives are being met;
Identify inventory issues; determine root cause and take corrective action to ensure accountability;
Oversee annual physical inventory to perform book to physical reconciliation for Water and Wastewater Divisions and reconcile variances; Analyze inventory data to determine optimal quantity on hand and replenishment strategies; Order replenishment inventory based on the economic order quantity and buffer stock requirements, ensure adequate stock levels for all supply items to avoid stock-outs;
Manage obsolescence and disposition of inventory consistent with policies and guidelines;
Analyze all aspects of inventory logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means
of warehousing parts and supplies; Update and maintain accurate records in inventory function of the asset management software the system, create reports on inventory levels and projections and provide budget input Generate reports and analysis on inventory data to Public Works staff and other departments;
Maintain purchasing metrics, SOP documentation, electronic data-base information, purchase requisition logs, training, and safety records; Create and update new policies or procedures for inventory activities as needed;
Maintain warehouse facilities to meet fire, safety and health code requirements; evaluate
available storage space, and determine the layout/location of stock; Identify problems associated with contracts or inventory maintenance, notify Divisions of issues and suggest corrective measures;
Train personnel in roles and responsibilities regarding inventory supply replenishment for each
warehouse; Adhere to City Records Retention policies for both electronic and hard copy data to comply with
City and legal regulations Support the City of Meridian and Public Works' mission, vision, and values; Follow all safety policies and procedures in effect; Perform related work as assigned.
Job Specifications:
High school diploma with 3-5 years’ experience in material handling, warehousing, asset
management systems.
Proficiency in data management, research, analysis, and trending;
Professional and effective negotiating skills to ensure the purchase of correct parts, at the best
value and in compliance with warranty and national standards
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook
Proficiency in using the functionality of an inventory software application
IPS Asset Management experience preferred
Understand and apply standard safety practices & procedures relating to inventory receiving,
organization and warehousing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Thorough working knowledge of and experience with inventory management processes: to
include but not limited to – processing requisitions, ordering parts and materials, receiving and
verifying orders, inventory control, logistics, warehousing, distribution & record-keeping and their
use and implementation in software database applications;
Public Works utility parts inventory experience preferred
Knowledge of end-to-end supply chain nodes
Understanding of General administrative and operations practices and procedures;
Familiar with City policies related to purchasing, accounting, and records management;
Understanding of and ability to use process management to standardize and improve
processes;
Knowledge of the impact of inventory management on operational decisions and actions.
Ability to cooperatively discuss, explain and mentor staff and vendors on internal inventory
procedures and policies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to develop and maintain an effective, cooperative, professional and positive working
relationship with co-workers, vendors, and manufacturers
Ability to consistently demonstrate the ability to work as a team player, communicate in a

Licensing and Certifications:
Must hold valid State of Idaho driver’s license and have a good driving record;
Warehouse certifications: forklift, pallet stacker
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office, warehouse, and outdoor environments with a moderate noise level.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
Walking, standing and sitting for extended periods of time
Climbing and bending at the waist, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally
Dexterity of hands and fingers to stock parts and operate tools & equipment
