Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Recreation Coordinator (Activities & Camps), the employee is responsible for coordinating summer day camp. Work includes the planning, organizing, directing and implementation of a comprehensive summer day camp program, the organizing and promoting of summer day camp, the maintaining of program and facility safety, coordination of the programs, operations and supervision of related personnel of the assigned day camp facilities. Work is reviewed through performance evaluations of accomplished goals, projects, and programs.
February 12th – June 1st: 19.50 hours per week and June 4th – Aug 17th : 40 hours per week
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees summer day camp program, summer day camp promotional materials. Communicates with program leadership staff to ensure that program guidelines and rules are followed;
Plans, coordinates, supervises and conducts summer day camp activities to achieve departmental and community service goals. Assists with development and implementation of short and long-term department visionary plans;
Plans, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of part time and seasonal staff; oversees the hiring of new employees, conducts interviews, trains and develops staff; maintains employee records under supervision of Recreation Coordinator;
Reviews and recommends to the Recreation Coordinator that eligible applicants be hired and that subordinate employees be transferred, suspended, promoted, terminated, reassigned or disciplined in the best interest of the program unit and the department;
Prepares publicity on summer day camps; solicits active interest, participation and support of Meridian citizens. Coordinates flyers and website and social media updates to assist with marketing and promotion of summer day camp opportunities;
Oversees collecting of and accounting for fees, charges and disbursements; deposits collected monies; maintains records of revenues, expenses and deposits of summer day camps under supervision of Recreation Coordinator;
In coordination with Recreation Coordinator, develops and implements administrative policies regarding summer day camp registration;
Coordinates summer day camps for children ages 6-11; Camp Mer-IDA-Moo;
Plans and implements activities, field trips, transportation, food items, guest speakers, field trips, etc. Records and maintains supply inventory and performs purchasing duties;
Monitors summer day camp registrations and trends, and develops educational/recreational curriculums accordingly. Coordinates training, development and implementation of summer day camp programming among recreation division seasonal camp staff;
Works with Recreation Coordinator in developing programming models for summer day camp programs and locations;
Collects feedback from campers, parents, and staff to improve summer day camp program. Maintains and fosters partnerships with West Ada School District administration and staff;
Responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public;
Administers and reviews budgets for summer day camp under supervision of Recreation Coordinator. Ensures planning and alignment of activities fall within budget constraints;
Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.
Job Specifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or Education or related field of study; and/or three years of progressively responsible experience in recreation and/or education or day camp services, one year of which must have been at the supervisory level; or equivalent combination of training and experience;
Must be CPR and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified within 30 days of hire, have good public relations skill, and be a good organizer.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to temperature changes, night lighting and is subject to outside environmental conditions;
Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in an outside environment to accomplish tasks;
Occasionally requires driving a motor vehicle;
Occasionally requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
