Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, the employee is responsible for coordinating community recreation programs. Work includes the planning, organizing and directing of a comprehensive recreation program, the organizing and promoting of sports leagues, the maintaining of program and facility safety, and supervision of related personnel. Work is reviewed through performance evaluations of accomplished goals, projects, and programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
⦁ Oversees community recreation programs that include adult and youth sports leagues and tournaments;
⦁ Communicates with program leadership staff to ensure that program guidelines and rules are followed;
⦁ Creates league and tournament schedules;
⦁ Works closely with the West Ada School District and other gym facility owners to negotiate available gym time for sports programs and provide schedules of use;
⦁ Works closely with other internal staff responsible for scheduling Parks and Recreation Department facilities to coordinate the blocking and scheduling of those facilities for sports programs;
⦁ Plans, coordinates, supervises and conducts specialized recreational activities in such areas as sports, to achieve departmental and community service goals;
⦁ Plans, assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of full time, part time and seasonal staff; oversees the hiring of new employees, conducts interviews, trains and develops staff; maintains employee records;
⦁ Maintains contracts with outside officiating organizations;
⦁ Assesses employees’ performance and prepares evaluations, recommends and develops training as needed with approval of the Director;
⦁ Reviews and recommends to the Recreation Manager that eligible applicants be hired and that subordinate employees be transferred, suspended, promoted, terminated, reassigned or disciplined in the best interest of the program unit and the department;
⦁ Coordinates community-wide fundraising activities to support and expand leisure service programs;
⦁ Prepares publicity on recreational activities and programs; solicits active interest, participation, and support of neighborhood and community groups;
⦁ Oversees collecting of and accounting for fees, charges, and disbursements; maintains records of revenues and expenses;
⦁ Oversees the Annual Fee Schedule for programs and leagues;
⦁ Performs inspections of athletic fields and other recreational facilities; checks operation, condition, safety and security of equipment and facilities; coordinates periodic maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities with department maintenance personnel;
⦁ Responds to inquiries and complaints from the general public; arranges for public notification of recreation programs and events;
⦁ Assist as a back-up receptionist and telephone console operator, receiving and transferring of incoming calls, taking telephone registration information, and provides general department information as required;
⦁ Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.
Job Specifications:
⦁ Bachelors Degree in Recreation or Leisure Services, Sports Management, Physical Education, or related field of study; and/or three years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, one year of which must have been at the supervisory level; or equivalent combination of training and experience;
⦁ Must be CPR and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified within 30 days of hire, have good public relations skill, and be a good organizer;
⦁ Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

⦁ Ability to act in an emergency;
⦁ Ability to communicate with management, co-workers and the general public with respect and in a pleasant, courteous manner;
⦁ Must have integrity in the performance of assigned tasks;
⦁ Must be able to use the department’s registration software or learn to use in the first 6 months of position.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
⦁ While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to temperature changes, night lighting and is subject to outside environmental conditions;
⦁ Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
⦁ Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in an outside environment to accomplish tasks.
⦁ Occasionally requires driving a motor vehicle.
⦁ Occasionally requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
Travel Requirements
⦁ Local travel is required via City vehicle.
