Salary Range: $9.50 – $12.00 per hour, DOE
This position is for the City of Meridian's Outdoor Adventure Camp. Camp dates are June 11, 2018 - August 17, 2018. Staff training begins the week of June 4, 2018.
Job Summary:
Responsible for supervising youth program participants. Plans, leads and implements a variety of recreation activities including sports & field games, arts & crafts, field trips, environmental education, swimming, hiking and other outdoor activities. May assist with department community events and athletic events.
Essential Duties & Responsibility:
Works directly with program participants in day camp setting;
Administers appropriate first aid to program participants;
Assists other program staff with facility clean up following established guidelines;
Responsible for leading daily activities that coordinate with weekly themes;
Assists in maintaining the programs materials and inventory, submits supply request within the deadlines required by the Camp Director and reports any lost or broken supplies or equipment to the Camp Director;
Responsible for proper documentation pertaining to each child including sign in and out sheets;
Responsible for all disciplinary actions taken at the program site within an assigned age group. Refer to Discipline Policy;
Works as a team with other Recreation Camp Counselors various program sites;
Holds primary responsibility for supervising special activities and making sure they are following the program schedule, guidelines and procedures;
Holds secondary responsibility for program management;
Refers all parent complaints and concerns to the Site Director;
Coordinates with the Site Director in planning and implementing activities based on weekly themes;
Assist department staff with set up, implementation and take down/clean up of community events and athletic events.
Upholds all of the City ordinances, policies and procedures set forth by the City of Meridian;
Ensures and promotes safety for children in varying environments of the program.

Perform other related as assigned or needed.
Job Specifications:
High School Diploma plus 1 year experience in a summer camp setting or with youth programs; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work;
Must have good public relations skills, and be a good organizer;
Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others and work as a team player;
Ability to act in an emergency;
Ability to communicate with management, co-workers and general public with respect and in a pleasant, courteous manner;
Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to temperature changes, night lighting and is subject to outside environmental conditions;
Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits they employee to function in an outside environment to accomplish tasks;
Occasionally requires driving a motor vehicle.
