Salary Range: $9.50 – $12.00 per hour, DOE
This position is for the City of Meridian's Outdoor Adventure Camp. Camp dates are June 11, 2018 - August 17, 2018.
Job Summary:
Assist in the supervision of youth in the Outdoor Adventure Camp. Assists Adventure Camp Director in
the planning and implementation of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, rafting,
kayaking, outdoor cooking, orienteering and environmental education. May assist with department
community events and athletic events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Works directly with children each day during all scheduled outdoor adventure activities;
Responsible for implementing daily activities that coordinate with the outdoor adventure program;
Responsible for proper documentation pertaining to each child including sign in and out sheets;
Responsible for all disciplinary actions taken at the program site within an assigned age group;
Works as a team with other Recreation Camp Counselors and Outdoor Adventure Camp Director;
Holds secondary responsibility for program management;
Refers all parent complaints and concerns the Outdoor Adventure Camp Director;
Uphold all of the City ordinances, policies and procedures set forth by the City of Meridian;
Ensures and promotes safety for children in varying environments of the program.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.
Job Specifications:
High school diploma plus one year experience in a summer camp setting or with youth programs, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work;
Must obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification prior to camp start date;
Must have a general knowledge of several outdoor activities; including but not limited to: hiking, orienteering, kayaking, white water rafting, and ropes courses;
Must have good public relations skills, and be a good organizer;
Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others and work as a team player;
Ability to act in an emergency;
Ability to communicate with management, co-workers and general public with respect and in a pleasant, courteous manner;
Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks.
Travel Requirements
Local travel to a variety of locations is required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to temperature changes, and is subject to outside environmental changes;
Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively;
Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a outside environment to accomplish tasks;
Occasionally requires driving a motor vehicle.
