Hiring Salary: $13.77 - $17.51 per hour, DOE
Salary Range: $13.77 - $20.56 per hour, DOE
Job Summary:
Provides fire prevention and public education activities throughout the City and Rural District.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists with presentations to community groups and schools promoting fire prevention concepts, and explaining the operations of the Fire Department;
Works at the Fire Safety Center to promote fire prevention and safety programs;
Assists with the Juvenile Fire Setter Program;
Assists with the Public Education Program;
Maintains a complete record of all public education activities;
Makes presentations outside norm al working hours;
Communicates with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations in person, in writing, or over the phone;
Performs related work as assigned;
Coordinates and supervises volunteers as needed;
Child Passenger Seat program;
CPR Instructor certification.
Job Specifications:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent;
Firefighting experience is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Computer applications related to the work including Windows, Word, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint;
Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone to communicate fire safety concepts;
Fire and safety education programs and fire behavior;
Prepares clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials;
Maintain accurate records and files;
Use initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines;
Conduct group presentations;
Ability to work in a team environment as a team player;
Integrity in the performance of assigned tasks;
Shows respect to fellow employees and customers; responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;

Tools & Equipment Used:
Standard office and class room equipment including a computer in the course of the work;
Audio-Visual equipment used in a classroom setting;
Public Address systems and components;
Smoke alarms, CO alarms and car seats.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Work is performed frequently in an office environment with moderate noise level;
May work variable hours as scheduled by the department;
Occasionally requires driving a motor vehicle in order to make presentations and reach sites;
Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and hearing and speech to
communicate in person and over the telephone;
Constantly requires repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers;
Constantly requires mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks;
Occasionally calls for long periods of time standing at safety fairs inside and outside in the elements;
Occasionally requires moving and climbing ladders;
Requires the ability to move and climb ladders and to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.;
Requires the ability to work above the head while standing on ladders.
Licensing and Certification:
Must possess a valid Idaho Class D driver’s license.
Travel Requirements:
Travels by car to classes and seminars;
Drives a city vehicle to presentation sites.
