Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Allina Health System has a full-time opportunity for a Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Minneapolis, MN. Primary work location is Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Additional work location may include Hennepin County Medical Center (same area of intended employment).
The Cardiothoracic Surgeon performs surgical procedures of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest. This position requires a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited medical school plus five (5) years of experience in Surgery, which may have been obtained during physician residency or fellowship programs.
Must also have 36 months of experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery with demonstrated experience in each of the following:
- adult cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve repair and replacement procedures, thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, and cardiothoracic trauma;
- preoperative and postoperative care of patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgeries; and
- mechanical circulatory support (MCS) technology and devices, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) cardiopulmonary life support and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) technology. All experience may have been gained concurrently.
This position supervises up to 15 positions, including ICU Nurses, Fellows, PA Trainees and Nursing students. Requires a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Minnesota. Must be Board certified in Surgery. Must be Board eligible or Board certified in Thoracic Surgery.
Full time work schedule is approximately 20 scheduled shifts per month, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., plus call responsibility from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. two weekends and 10 weekdays per month.
Call responsibilities include 1:3 for transplant and 1:4 for primary cardiothoracic surgery. Primary work location is Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Additional work location may include Hennepin County Medical Center (same area of intended employment).
